The Moose and the Goose

A story of love and friendship, for children
(and adults too)

The moose was wandering in the field with its fellow moose, the summer sun beating down on their thick, brown fur.

After a little while, they found themselves wandering towards some apple trees, and they took the opportunity to stop for a chance to enjoy some shade.

As the group browsed and grazed, the moose noticed a beautiful radiance in the distance. He focused and realised it was a gaggle of geese, with one goose beaming particularly brightly, particularly beautifully.

The moose couldn’t take his eyes off the goose. How truly stunning; how truly, wonderfully pretty, he thought.

The moose, in a daze from the grace and allure of the goose, suddenly realised he was staring. And, to his surprise, the goose was looking right back at him.

He blushed in embarrassment, and turned away.

The moose realised his herd had continued its journey, so he hurried along to catch up with them, stealing a glance back at that exquisite goose as he did so.

A short while later along their journey, the moose noticed a quiet, sweet sound not far behind. The rest of the herd didn’t notice, but he did.

He turned his head, and to his delight, he saw the gaggle of geese waddling along not far behind.

Before long, the two groups were nearly alongside each other. Not close, but close enough for the moose to see the goose out of the corner of his eye.

Was it just his imagination, or was that goose slowly waddling away from its gaggle and closer to the herd?

Yes, it couldn’t be denied, the goose was now halfway between the groups, elegantly, and somewhat shyly, waddling closer, while stealing its own sweet smiles at the moose.

The moose, feeling unusually brave, began to move away from his own group, and closer to the goose.

A few nervy and excitable moments later, and they were alongside one another.

“Hello, kind moose.”

“Hello, sweet goose.”

The moose couldn’t believe the striking beauty of the goose, feeling her strong aura and sweet nature emanating gloriously.

The goose thought, “What a handsome, strong moose.” I just love the feeling of being close to him. Such warmth, such sturdiness.

The pair carried on, fully enjoying the new companionship and warmth that arose from being close to each other.

After some time, the two groups began to go their separate ways, and the moose and goose knew they had to part.

“Will you be back here again soon?” Said the moose, hopefully.

“I surely will. Would you like to meet again?” Offered the goose.

The moose couldn’t contain his joy. “I surely would.”

“See you soon, sweet moose.”

“See you soon, beautiful goose.”

The moose and the goose trotted and waddled back to their groups, of course, stealing a couple of glances back at each other as they did so.

While the moose was away from the goose, he thought about her constantly, and dearly.

The goose too, could only think of the moose and how she wanted to be back beside him again.

Only a couple of days later, the two groups were back close together again, and the moose and the goose were overjoyed to be with each other again.

If wasn’t long before they were spending most of their time together, basking in the sun, comforting each other through the wind and rain, and fulfilling their time together with adoration and love.

The moose and the goose became the best of friends.

They simply adored each other, and felt perfectly at home when they were side by side. So, they decided to be together all of the time.

They went on adventures together, through beautiful terrain and exciting new landscapes. They shared all of their time as one, and loved every sweet moment fully.

The moose and the goose were meant to be together, and for the rest of their days, they were as happy as a moose and a goose can be…

You may be expecting a moment or two of difficulty in this story – a moose and a goose meeting per chance… Surely, some hurdle or problem will challenge their relationship and togetherness. Lord knows, you’re probably used to reading and hearing about such troubles in every walk of life.

But no, not in this walk of life. Not this time. For the moose and the goose, from the magical moment they met until the end of their time, were happy and content – full of love, and equally grateful for their special time together.

Yes, hardship and problems are a part of life, we all experience them at times. But always remember, some of the time, it goes the other way too – the way of the moose and the goose.
